About SICA

We are committed to inspiring, developing and celebrating the diverse cultural heritage within the Israeli and wider Scottish community and fostering Participative Democracy for all.

The SCOTTISH ISRAELI CULTURAL ASSOCIATION (SICA) started as an unincorporated community group to encourage greater participation in events to celebrate the cultural heritage of Israeli people in Scotland where people live in a cohesive society with respect for diverse cultural identities.

The organization was established by a dedicated diverse group of volunteers who shared the passion and desire to further encourage links between the Israeli and Scottish culture at several levels including participation and understanding through the promotion of a programme of cultural events, heritage, workshops, seminars, conferences and events at local and national level.

Following up on initial development and recent positive response from not only our strong and diverse members, but also various relevant stakeholders, we have now reached a stage in our expansion whereby we are able to progress and advance our position formally and take our organization through the next phase of development in order to see our goals achieved: a high level of positive support was provided during the past phase and this has enhanced our commitment to achieve our goals within a partnership and responsive context enabling the Israeli diverse citizens in Scotland to celebrate their cultural heritage and enhance community cohesion and understanding of culture and heritage as a means to enhance citizenship and peace.

Our vision is of a Scotland that is equal, cohesive and inclusive and of all communities, where all people are celebrating their identity, cultural heritage and citizenship with pride and dignity.

Our Aims:

  • The advancement of the arts, heritage and culture, through promoting and delivering educational and learning activities that celebrate the Israeli cultural heritage and intercultural dialogues through organizing and delivering cultural exhibitions and festivals, etc.
  • The advancement of citizenship or community development through organizing and delivering community or local events aimed at creating and strengthening community ties
  • The advancement of equality for and among diverse communities through celebrating cultural diversity and art as a means to equal citizenship and strengthening bonds among all community constituents promoting equal opportunities and community cohesion

Through these objectives, we aim at supporting not only the diverse Israeli communities but also the whole democratic, active citizenship and social justice agendas in Scotland and beyond.
